Grad School

Ugh.  I am horrible at making decisions.  I am the most indecisive person I've ever known.  And that is most likely the reason I cannot decide if I want to go back to school for my Master's.

I went to different junior colleges, and then finally an online school to finish my Bachelor's degree.  It took me TEN years to finish all of that, but I did it.  And it felt amazing.  I was taking classes online when I was pregnant, and worked ahead in class so that I could take a week off when I was in the hospital after having Berlyn.  If that isn't dedication, I don't know what is.  Part of the reason why I decided to finish my degree online was because I just needed to get it done.  I was just ready to put my all into getting it finished and receiving those credentials.

Now I am faced with another obstacle.  I cannot decide if I should go for my Master's or not.  Are any of you ladies full-time working mommies?  I ask this, because if I was a stay at home mom then I would definitely make this leap.  It's a little different when you have 40 less hours a week to devote to studying.  The absolute only option for me to go back for my degree is to do it online.  I refuse to take classes on campus and lose any more time with my family than is necessary.  The particular school that I am looking at is National University.  Have any of you heard of or attended this school?  The courses are 4 weeks long, and there aren't any breaks in between classes except for two weeks during the holidays at the end of the year.  I think I can do this, it's just that I am worried about the workload of a 4 week long course (it is a 12 month program).  They allow their students to take breaks of one month (in between each class, if I want), but that would just drag it out longer, and I really just want to finish it earlier than later.

So, please, any and all advice is appreciated as I am trying to make this decision quickly (which, for me, is impossible!).  As soon as I am done (or almost done) with my Master's, I would like to expand our family again and move into a bigger house.

Help!

  2. Go for it. Especially before you have #2. I'm studying my bachelor via distance, work full time and have a toddler tornado to run after as well. I've still got a few years to go though and I'm not liking distance so i have decided to go back to Uni and just do part time night classes.

If you had dedication to do what you did you'll kick arse doing your masters. My time management skills are shocking hence going to classes for me it is.

    1. Thanks Charlotte! I think I might just do it! The way I see it, tuition costs are only going to rise..

    2. Ehh i know tuitions fees are a joke. They have gone up so much in Australia. And even though I've been studying distant education (all online) I have to pay amenities fees, absolutely ridiculous.

  3. I say definitely go for it! Especially if you feel you want to accomplish that to move on to the next stage of your life. I'm dying to go back to school but I work full time and it's impossible time wise and financially for me right now. I was two classes away from getting my degree in early childhood education but decided it wasn't for me and now I have to start from scratch!

    1. Oh no! That is a bummer, but if something isn't for you then it isn't for you! I'm 90% sure I am going to do it!

  4. I think you should definitely do it! As hard as it may be to devote time to your online classes, you will feel sooo accomplished and proud once it's all over... and we know how quick a year goes by, it will be an accomplishment before you know it! Not to mention, it will be a whole lot easier to do this with one baby at home versus two if that were to happen ;) You already know you have the dedication and drive to get this done, just gotta pull the trigger!

  5. Just curious, what is the benefit to getting your masters degree? I would make a list of pros & cons for sure, I can always see things more clearly on paper! I got my masters before I had kids and from that I got a raise (I was a teacher). Now I'm a SAHM and it gets me nothing! 😂 I say if it's important to you and it will help your family in the long run do it! B will be proud of her mama! If it's going to take away a year of you enjoying your baby girl without much benefit, then I wouldn't, but that's just me.

    1. A pros and cons list is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. See, for us it would be a while until I could ever become a SAHM, and I'm not all that sure that's what I want. I love my baby but have other goals I'd like to reach as well. At my job it would help me excel, so I want the credentials that will help me get there!

  6. I agree with Heather! Ask yourself why do you want to get a Master's degree? I'm a SAHM and like I told you in IG I might be going to work soon (hopefully I get the job). I always knew I wanted to go to grad school to continue my education but after getting pregnant with Mikey my mentality completely changed. But then again I asked why I wanted to have a Master's degree before going into such a big debt! I think those university programs are great! I'm going through university of Phoenix and I only have one class and we change every 6 weeks. The program is 1.5 yrs and you go to the classroom which is easier for me. So it seem like a good idea. First class was so hard I was getting behind my assignments because Mikey just wanted attention all the time! I ended up getting an A! So proud of myself so it gave me more motivation to keep going. I want to start my career before even thinking of expanding my family and it's something that I really want to accomplish for personal reasons. I would say go for it momma! Everything is possible but whatever you decide will be good ;)

Ps sorry for the long post!
