Temper Tantrum, Much?

So, just in the past month, Berlyn has been throwing these tantrums. It typically happens after we tell her "no," or take something away from her that she shouldn't have. She will fling her whole body backwards (in this picture I had to support her upper body until she touched the floor otherwise she would have busted her head open... so dramatic), and then she will cry/whine. At her one year check-up, we addressed this with her pediatrician and he told us just to "leave the room" when she threw a tantrum and that is EXACTLY what we have been doing. It seems to be working, because she will quit whining as soon as we walk away, but I still don't want her to grow into being a bratty little girl!!

Berlyn is the sweetest, happiest, smartest baby, and I hope this is just a phase she is going through, but I can't help but wonder whether she will do this all the time or what?! Does anyone else's baby do this? How do you deal with it?! Help!

  1. oh my gosh i was totally wondering about this too! Ava hasn't done it completely yet but she will def throw a fit (start fussing/whining) if we take something away or won't give her what she wants. good to know if they get full blown were just supposed to walk away!

  2. Good advice for my future ... I'm thinking I will need it! Waverly is such a happy baby, but definitely is strong-willed and already let's us know how she feels! Hang in there, momma! Good thing she's super cute!

  3. Rilyn isn't that age yet but I will say that my niece used to that... and my sister is actually a behavioral specialist and from being a Mom and what she has studied, its just a normal part of them growing up into a toddler. They test their boundaries a lot in different phases. Just keep doing what you are doing and I think it will pass like your dr said. I have witnessed some crazy meltdowns from my niece though at times, but overall she is a super sweet little girl... so I think Berlyn will remain the sweet, smart, happy baby you know, I think she is just testing Mommy & Daddy for right now.

    1. That's exactly what i'm hoping for! She is definitely testing us... but for the most part we do not give in. I refuse to be the kind of mom who gives my baby something just because she's crying lol

    1. I think it will pass! It just hurts because all you want to do is console them when they cry... not walk away! xo
