I am really dreading potty training... anyone else?! I would like to have Berlyn potty trained before she is two years old, but we will see! I need to do it at a time when I can be available to her all day long. The only time for us to try this is during the holidays this year. I will be off work for two weeks on vacation and it will be perfect. Not that I don't trust my husband to jump up every time she says "potty", but I would just like this one thing to be mine (maybe I'm a little jealous that he gets to spend so much daddy-daughter time with her while I'm at work... I digress ).
Do any of you have any tips that would be helpful for potty training? Pull-Ups? What kind of "potty" seat do you use for your little one? I bought Berlyn the type of toilet that sits on the ground that she can use, however, I read today that it might be better to use the one that actually sits on top of the toilet. I have also heard from some of my mama friends that NOT using Pull-Ups is the way to go because that way they can learn quickly that it doesn't feel good to potty or poo in their pants. Any suggestions at all would be helpful!!!
I know this was a random post, but, I truly am interested in what everyone's take on this is! Not everyone shares the same opinion, and I'd like to see what all the different options for us are! I hope everyone has a great Saturday night!
My daughter is only 17m but showing interest and ability to communicate rhen she is going. I actually just posted on Thursday about the seat we bought, but like you heard the toilet top adapter works for others... I think when we really train well grab one, right now I just want her to learn its use and purpose, excited to see how this goes for you!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! She has gone potty a couple times in her own little potty but I think it was just a fluke. Ugh! Good luck with you little one!
DeleteCan't wait to hear how your potty training adventures go! Sofia is almost a year, we'll be potty training before we know it!

Hello Newlywed Life Blog
Thank you! You too!
DeleteI just bought potty bootcamp! Berkley is only 14 months old but I want to go ahead and read the entire thing and research some because starting. I read that its good for them to have their own potty so that they can actually go & sit on it when they have to potty instead of needing help...searching independence? I want Berkley potty trained before age 2 too just in case #2 comes along.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look into that book, thanks! And I hear what you're saying about #2!!
DeleteLooking forward to reading about your experience!!! Best of luck momma!

DeleteTotally possible! We potty trained Benson by 18months. Granted he communicated very well! But definitely starting off with the seat that sits on the toilet is helpful...that way you aren't doing double work in transitioning. And big girl panties are the way to go. But we had/have hardwood and tile so accidents were managable. We used a timer set for every 15-20mins and did a potty celebration at every ring to start. Good luck mama! Its a very trying and rewarding time for you both.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tips! I think I might go out and get the seat that goes onto the toilet because I agree that pouring poo/pee into the toilet is double work and gross!! Going to also get some undies soon too!
DeleteGood luck! I highly recommend the potty chairs that sing! It was a major success in his training. I liked knowing that he actually went and how much he went and he liked the immediate feedback from the potty!!! And I agree, NO pull-ups! He was naked from the waist down for the first few days! It sounds bad but it seriously helped!!!! (I hope this doesn't post twice. iPad is being dumb!)
ReplyDeleteI totally recommend sticking to strictly underwear from experience with my oldest boy:) Good luck mama!! I promise it's more exciting than it seems!
